BEML Ltd, a Ministry of Defence Schedule 'A' company making mining & construction equipment, rail and metro rolling stock and defense equipment, comes into this quarter on the back of its 'best first quarter in the last decade' with 29% top-line growth. The print will speak to whether that momentum holds against a sharp steel price rally and pending forex-loss recovery, and whether margins track toward the guided 13% EBITDA level.

The board will meet on 05-Nov-2026 to approve the standalone and consolidated unaudited financial results for Q2/H1 FY27. The trading window remained shut from 01-Oct to 07-Nov-2026.
Separately from this quarter's agenda, the board had recommended a revised final dividend of Rs. 12.28 per share (246%) for FY26, taking the total FY26 dividend to Rs. 17.0870 per share (342%). The record date for that payout was 22-Sep-2026 with book closure from 23 to 29 September.
The quarter tests whether Q1 FY27's 29% top-line growth — led by Rail & Metro at +178% and Defense at +25% — carries through, with CMD Shantanu Roy stating 'I expect a similar or better growth in the second quarter and the quarters thereafter'. Demand signals inside the July-September window were favourable: IIP capital goods grew 16.1% in July and 10.4% in September, and Coal India's April-August supplies rose 6.7% against production down 4.5%, consistent with management's call that mining should pick up 'from the second quarter itself'.
The order book stood at Rs. 16,285 Cr as of 01-Jul-2026, and the over Rs. 5,400 Cr NHSRCL high-speed rail order announced on 18-Sep-2026 — the largest single order in the company's history — landed inside the window, though it is a book-building event with delivery spread over 7-8 years rather than Q2 revenue.
Margin is the pressure point: HRC steel rallied to a four-year high of Rs. 63,800/t by mid-September (+25% YoY), and with USD/INR at 95.99 and EUR/INR at 108.62 on 30-Sep-2026, the booked forex losses on the two foreign-currency projects recover only on sales realization, with management guiding 20%-25% in-year mitigation. The bridge to the guided EBITDA of at least 13% (vs 2.68% in H1 FY26) depends on mix and on no new one-off provisions, after FY26's provisions exceeding Rs. 257 Cr were called one-time.

Capex milestones and leadership continuity
Yes — Q1 FY27 top line grew 29% YoY, which the CMD called 'probably the best first quarter we have had in the last decade or so'. Growth was led by Rail & Metro at +178% and Defense at +25%, while Mining (HEMM) declined 14% on deferred contract finalizations.
Management said the three major FY26 items — including the two-project correction of around Rs. 250 Cr and the gratuity provision — are one-time. The regular gratuity provision will be recurring but 'should not have that big impact', and current metro, rail and defense projects 'are all going on time'.
Management guided that booked losses will be mitigated to at least 20%-25% in FY27, with a 50%-60% improvement in exchange rate variation on realization, and more in coming years. Benefits are recognized only on sales realization, coupled with the Price Variation Clause on one project.
Management said mining visibility is already in place and that it 'should pick up from the second quarter itself' of FY27, with more focus on booking export mining orders. The Q1 HEMM decline of 14% was attributed to deferred finalization of projects where BEML is already L1.
