Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC), India's No. 2 lignite producer and the state-owned operator of lignite mines, Odisha coal blocks and the Akrimota thermal plant, reports Q2 FY 2026-2027 results into a quarter shaped by repeated monsoon disruption over its Gujarat mining belt and a fuel-starved Morbi ceramics cluster. The print will speak to the H1 lignite despatch run-rate against the 97 lakh MT FY27 target and whether the loss-making Power segment keeps narrowing from Q1 FY27's Rs. 6.00 Cr segment loss.

Per the board intimation, the Board is scheduled to meet on Friday, October 30, 2026 to approve standalone and consolidated unaudited results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27) under Regulation 29(1)(a) of SEBI LODR. The trading window remained closed from October 1 to November 2, 2026.
GMDC declared a final dividend of Rs. 9.50 per share (475% on a Rs. 2 face value) for FY 2025-26, a total payout of about Rs. 302.10 Cr, roughly 30% of FY26 standalone PAT of Rs. 990.81 Cr. The dividend record date was September 23, 2026, and a cheque of Rs. 223.55 Cr — the state's 74% share — was presented to the Gujarat Chief Minister on October 21, 2026.
The quarter's central test is the H1 lignite despatch run-rate against the 97 lakh MT FY27 target, after extreme-rain episodes hit Gujarat on July 24, August 1 (61 cm at Ambika, Surat district) and September 13-16 — the same waterlogging risk that cost GMDC 2.56 lakh MT of despatch in FY26. Demand from the Morbi ceramics cluster remains disrupted, with gas at Rs. 86-88/scm (roughly double pre-conflict levels), over 700 factories temporarily shut earlier in the year and tile export volumes down 46% YoY through April-July 2026, though lignite retains a substitution role as units rebuild toward a ~3 mmscmd gas run-rate. On costs, Q1 FY27 already showed loading and overburden removal up 50.15% YoY and royalties up 45.64% YoY, with EBITDA margin down 212 bps YoY to 21.07%, and diesel — unchanged at the pump since May 25, 2026 — carries a higher YoY base with the Indian basket at $82.04/bbl in July 2026 versus $70.95/bbl a year earlier. The Power segment is the margin-repair story: the LTPS operating loss narrowed from Rs. 79.61 Cr in FY26 to Rs. 6.00 Cr in Q1 FY27 as both units were revived and synchronised. This is also the first results period under Managing Director Shri Ajay Bhadoo, IAS, who took charge on September 29, 2026, with the GNFC and IREL MoUs (July 31, 2026) and the Lakhpat Punhrajpur ramp after its June 2026 groundbreaking framing the strategic narrative.
Lignite despatch vs the 97 lakh MT FY27 target: FY26 closed 2.56 lakh MT short of its 81.40 lakh MT target, making H1 progress the single most important disclosure.

Standalone revenue from operations rose 23.76% YoY and 11.37% QoQ to Rs. 906.64 Cr in Q1 FY27, with the Mining segment contributing 92.76% of quarterly revenue. However, PAT of Rs. 163.01 Cr fell 0.68% YoY and 26.30% QoQ against a strong Q4 FY26 base of Rs. 221.18 Cr.
Management has set a FY27 lignite despatch target of 97 lakh MT versus 78.84 lakh MT achieved in FY26, which itself fell 2.56 lakh MT short of its 81.40 lakh MT target due to waterlogging at Tadkeshwar and Morbi demand impact. The company has said the target depends on monsoon preparedness, quality consistency, truck turnaround and market conditions, so H1 progress will be a key disclosure.
FY26 PAT of Rs. 990.81 Cr (up 45.30% YoY) included a one-time exceptional gain of Rs. 522.65 Cr from recognition of GST input-tax credits following the lignite GST rate revision. Profit before exceptional items and tax was Rs. 779.23 Cr, down 12.52% YoY, and management has said recurring earnings depend on mine output, demand and cost control.
Approved by the board on July 31, 2026, the GNFC MoU covers a coal-to-chemicals value chain using gasification technologies including Underground Coal Gasification, while the IREL (India) MoU covers collaboration on rare earth elements. These sit alongside an NMDC MoU (March 16, 2026) on an integrated rare earth value chain in Gujarat and an NTPC MoU on coal supply from Odisha blocks.
