HBL Engineering Limited, the Hyderabad-based maker of industrial and defence batteries and the Kavach rail-safety system for Indian Railways, reports Q2 FY 2026-2027 results with its order book having nearly doubled to about Rs. 5,902 crore. The print will speak to whether the cost pressure that drove a 24.53% YoY PAT decline in Q1 FY27 normalises, and how Kavach execution converts the enlarged order book against the company's ~50%-of-FY27-sales guidance.
| Results date | November 07, 2026 |

| Previous quarter PAT | Rs. 105.47 Cr (standalone, Q1 FY27) |

The Board of Directors will meet on Saturday, November 07, 2026, to approve the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27). The trading window for Directors, KMPs and designated employees reopens 48 hours after the meeting concludes.
The quarter's central test is the margin bridge: Q1 FY27 standalone expenses rose 19.57% to Rs. 497.51 crore against revenue growth of 5.42%, driving the 24.53% PAT decline, and the watch is whether Q2 expense growth normalises toward revenue growth given management's caveat that sales and margins 'will vary significantly from quarter to quarter'.
On execution, Kavach commissioning extended beyond the Delhi-Mumbai (1,423 rkm) and Delhi-Howrah (1,210 rkm) corridors into new sections in September, including the first Kavach 4.0 commissioning on South Central Railway (108 rkm Malkajgiri-Kamareddi) and fresh approvals of Rs. 252 Cr for 607.7 rkm in the Lucknow Division and Rs. 223 Cr for 614.75 rkm in the Varanasi Division, with trackside work spanning 21,794 rkm and systems in 6,290 locomotives.
Management has guided Kavach to about 50% of FY27 sales with some growth over FY26 (Kavach contributed almost 50% of FY26 sales), and the FY30 framing of more than Rs. 5,000 crore in group total sales stands as guided, alongside the caution that Kavach sales and PBT could decline from FY29 onwards as competition increases.
On costs, lead — the principal input to the 41.64%-of-turnover battery line — exited the quarter around $1,860-1,890/t on LME after rising month-on-month through August, while the weaker rupee (trading around 95-96 through the window) is a reported-margin offset given the unhedged FX exposure that added about Rs. 23.58 crore to FY26 operating margins. The upcoming call is also expected to cover conversion of the ~Rs. 5,902 crore order book (~75% Kavach/TMS) against company-flagged wayside execution delays and CLW locomotive availability.
Performance vs previously stated guidance: Management has a set of dated, quantified goals that the Q2 call can be measured against.
Q1 cost pressure and margin normalisation: The dominant Q1 FY27 story was expenses outpacing revenue.
Order book conversion and Kavach execution: The enlarged order book makes execution conversion the key operating metric.
Risks and follow-ups: CLW, working capital, warranty: Company- and rating-agency-flagged items that the call should address.
Narrative shifts and new investments: Whether management updates its longer-term framing or the recent investment moves.
Standalone revenue grew 5.42% YoY to Rs. 619.54 crore, but total expenses rose 19.57% to Rs. 497.51 crore, far outpacing revenue. This drove standalone PAT down 24.53% YoY to Rs. 105.47 crore.
Management has projected total sales of over Rs. 5,000 crore by FY 2030 on a healthy order book across industrial batteries, defence, and Kavach, and the guidance was reiterated in the AGM notice. The order book of ~Rs. 5,902 crore as of Sept 2026 supports the trajectory, though management cautions that 'Sales and PBT Growth during the next few years should not be expected to be uniform'.
TCAS/Kavach and TMS projects comprise about 75% (~Rs. 4,440 crore) of the ~Rs. 5,902 crore order book as of Sept 2026. Kavach contributed almost 50% of sales in FY26, and management expects about the same share in FY27.
Standalone revenue rose 5.42% YoY to Rs. 619.54 crore in Q1 FY27, on top of FY26 standalone revenue growth of 67.1% to Rs. 3,251.80 Cr. The growth is driven by the Electronics segment (Kavach), which expanded 5.45x to Rs. 1,626.25 crore in FY26.
