IPCA Laboratories is a Mumbai-headquartered formulations and API maker with a ~2.08% domestic market share, a growing exports franchise and the recently integrated Unichem business. This Q2 FY27 print will speak to whether the raised FY27 guidance of 14-16% revenue growth and ~23% consolidated EBITDA margin holds, with freight inflation and material costs the key swing factors against the 22.88% Q1 margin print.

The quarter tests whether IPCA's raised FY27 frame — consolidated revenue growth of 14-16% and a ~23% consolidated EBITDA margin — survives a Q2 in which freight and material costs ran hot while the rupee stayed weak. The domestic backdrop is the strongest in years: IPM value growth ran at 12-13.5% per month through July-September, with the Q2 FY27 IPM print of ~12% by value a six-quarter high led by a volume recovery, though IPCA's Q1 domestic formulations growth of 12.60% already trailed IPM's 13.5%.
The FX tailwind management flagged — rupee depreciation contributed ~5% of Q1's 21% turnover growth, with the currency holding a weak Rs. 95-96 band all quarter — was guided to last 'at least the next two quarters', covering precisely this one.
On the US side, the Section 232 tariff regime effective 29 September 2026 explicitly excludes generics, so no tariff repricing of the Rs. 1,567 Cr FY26 US franchise should be in the quarter, and ANDA approvals continued (amlodipine besylate approved 22 Sep 2026 for Ipca; alprazolam and celecoxib approvals for Unichem in July and October).
The contested question is the margin line: global container freight remained ~132% above February levels with the Strait of Hormuz disruption still live, even as composite rates drifted lower late in the quarter, and management itself had cautioned that Q2 could be a peak-margin quarter — making the ~23% FY27 margin guide the key thing the call will be probed on.
Performance vs guidance tracking: Management raised FY27 guidance at the Q1 call on 14 August 2026; here is what to check against each item.
Margin seasonality and freight headwind
Institutional generics run-rate
Unichem US recovery and held guidance
Biotech and biosimilar milestones
Management said FY28 guidance will be provided at the time of the Q4 FY27 results announcement. This was stated twice on the Q1 FY27 call when analysts pressed for a forward frame.
Management raised FY27 guidance at the Q1 FY27 call to 14-16% consolidated revenue growth (from 12-13%) and ~23% consolidated EBITDA margin (from 22%). The margin guide is the item under most visible pressure from freight and material-cost inflation in Q2.
Managing director A.K. Jain said on the Q1 FY27 call, 'Unichem guidelines, I'm not revising right now. Let's see for some more quarters how it performs.' The held guidance stands at 10% top-line growth and 12-13% EBITDA margin for FY27.
Q1 FY27 domestic growth split into ~5% volume, ~4.5-5% price and ~2% new launches, with management noting 'compared to industry, our volume growth is higher'. IPCA grew 8.9% in acute vs IPM's 4.5% and 17.2% in chronic vs IPM's 15.2%.
Management confirmed rupee depreciation contributed ~5% of Q1 FY27's 21% turnover growth, with the dollar up ~11% YoY. About 25% of IPCA's material costs are dollar-denominated, broadly offsetting the translation benefit on costs.
