Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI), India's largest life insurer, reports Q2 FY 2026-2027 results with its net VNB margin trajectory firmly in focus after Q1 FY27 printed 22.9%. The print will speak to whether the mid-20s VNB margin target by end-FY27 stays on track in a rising-yield, falling-equity quarter, and whether banca and ULIP channels recover against a slipping market share of 60.10% in first-year premium.

The board of Life Insurance Corporation of India is scheduled to meet on November 5, 2026, to consider the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2026. The trading window remained closed from October 1 to November 7, 2026.
LIC's Q2/H1 FY27 earnings call is scheduled for November 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. IST. Attendees include CEO R. Doraiswamy, MDs Ratnakar Patnaik and R. Chander, Appointed Actuary A. K. Srivastava, and Chief (F&A) Sonija M. S.
The key question for this quarter is whether LIC's net VNB margin, already at 22.9% in Q1 FY27 against the mid-20s target by end-FY27, can keep building when the Q1 tailwinds of +500 bps positive RFR economic variance and +290 bps of assumption changes do not repeat mechanically.
The 10-year G-sec hardened from 6.84% end-July to 7.19% by September 28, and the Nifty slid roughly 7% from early August to 22,780.25 by September 28, moves that generate debt and equity MTM pressure on a policyholders' AUM book of Rs. 59,39,384 crore — FY26 embedded value had already absorbed MTM declines of Rs. 53,698 crore in equity and Rs. 46,853 crore in debt.
On flows, the latest grounded industry print (June 2026) showed industry new business premium up 13.07% YoY while LIC grew just 1.2% and private insurers 36.75%, keeping the market-share question alive after LIC's first-year-premium share slipped to 60.10% from 63.51%. Management has guided banca and alternate channels to surpass last year's figures in subsequent quarters after Q1's modest +5.25% NBP growth, while ULIP recovery depends on market normalisation.
The GST/ITC expense headwind persists — Q1 FY27 expense ratio was 10.63%, up 16 bps YoY — and IRDAI's September 23, 2026 distribution-reforms consultation paper (12.5% first-year commission cap, phased EoM cuts, implementation flagged for January 1 or April 1, 2027) adds a live regulatory overhang. The call is also likely to cover the RBC/IFRS transition, dividend policy pending the final IFRS notification, and KMP appointments after the CFO and MD exits in September without named successors.
Mid-20s VNB margin trajectory: Q1 FY27 net VNB margin of 22.9% already sits 170 bps above the FY26 full-year margin of 21.2%.

CEO R. Doraiswamy confirmed LIC is 'working towards that' target, and management reiterated it is on track to achieve mid-20s VNB margin by year-end. Q1 FY27's net VNB margin of 22.9% is already 170 bps above the FY26 full-year margin of 21.2%.
Net VNB margin was 22.9% in Q1 FY27, up 750 bps YoY from 15.4%. The 650 bps increase was attributed to product mix changes and enhanced product margins, with assumption changes adding a positive 290 bps in total, including +500 bps from positive RFR economic variance.
LIC's first-year-premium market share slipped to 60.10% from 63.51%, and the latest monthly industry print (June 2026) showed LIC new business premium up just 1.2% while private insurers grew 36.75%. Management has rationalised the share loss as a natural consequence of more players entering and said it prioritises growing the entire pie and VNB growth over market share.
LIC's solvency ratio stood at 2.42 in Q1 FY27, up from 2.17 a year earlier. Management noted this is pre-dividend and expected at 2.32 post-dividend, with the higher ratio a result of profits before dividend payout rather than a deliberate strategy.
Agent count declined 2.73% YoY to 14,45,692 in Q1 FY27. Management attributed this partly to candidates leaving after realising the performance requirements of the Bima Sakhi initiative.
