Tata Steel is a global steel producer with operations across India, the UK and the Netherlands, and its Q2 FY27 print lands against a quarter of sharply rising domestic steel prices and accelerating coking coal costs. The results will speak to whether India EBITDA improves sequentially in rupee terms as guided despite margin compression, and whether UK losses keep shrinking toward zero while the Netherlands regulatory overhang stays contained.

The board will meet on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, to consider the audited Standalone and unaudited Consolidated results for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2026, under Regulation 29(1) of SEBI LODR. The insider trading window closed on September 24, 2026, and reopens 48 hours after results declaration.
The Q2 FY27 print will test whether India EBITDA improves sequentially in rupee terms from Q1's Rs. 9,908 Cr as management guided, with volumes normalising after the Meramandali and Kalinganagar shutdowns depressed Q1 deliveries to 5.17 mn tons. Domestic price action ran well ahead of the guided ~Rs. 1,500/ton QoQ realisation decline — Mumbai HRC hit a four-year high of Rs. 63,900/ton in the week ended September 18 after a ~Rs. 4,000/ton August-September rally, and SIAM's record Q2 auto dispatches of 13,60,687 PV units (+30.7% YoY) support the hi-end auto and branded mix. The dominant margin swing is coking coal: spot moved from a $232/ton August average to $283/ton by mid-September, well above the ~$184/ton consumption cost guided for Q2, making the Q3 cost reset a key watch item. Management's claim that the ~Rs. 1,200 Cr of Q1 West Asia-related unplanned costs would taper 'in the coming quarters' faces a test, with VLCC rates at historic highs (~$970,635/day on September 16) and Hormuz war-risk cover at 3.5-7.5% of hull value through the quarter. On the overseas side, UK realisations carry a guided +£70-80/ton tailwind against Q1's -£27 mn EBITDA loss, while the Netherlands story remains event-heavy with the JLoI deadline extended to March 1, 2027 and the first Amsterdam District Court hearing on the coke oven matter set for November 20, 2026.
Guidance scorecard to interrogate: Management laid out specific Q2 and FY27 targets on the Q1 call — here is what to check against the actual print.
India volumes and realisations
NINL expansion and merger execution
Netherlands and UK overhangs
Balance sheet and other follow-ups
Imported coking coal rose 22% to $283/ton by mid-September versus a $232/ton August average, well above the ~$184/ton consumption cost management guided for Q2. Management has guided India consumption cost +$5/ton and Netherlands +$10/ton for Q2, with the spot-to-guide gap pointing to a Q3 cost reset.
At the Q1 call, management guided India realisations lower by about Rs. 1,500/ton QoQ in Q2. Spot prices subsequently rallied ~Rs. 4,000/ton between August and early September to a four-year high, so the actual realisation disclosed will be a key comparison.
TSN paid over €20 million in penalties in FY2026 and the Dutch environment agency and province have indicated intent to revoke the coke and gas plant permits, prompting the company to explore earlier, controlled closure. The JLoI deadline with the Dutch government was extended to March 1, 2027, and the first Amsterdam District Court hearing in the criminal case is scheduled for November 20, 2026.
Management has guided FY27 consolidated volume growth of at least +2 million tons versus FY2026 and group capex of ~Rs. 20,000 Cr with over 60% in India. Q1 India deliveries fell QoQ to 5.17 mn tons on shutdowns, so the volume-normalisation claim is testable in the Q2 print.
UK EBITDA loss narrowed to -£27 mn in Q1 FY27 from -£48 mn in 4QFY26, with FY26 losses halved to -£217 mn. Management guided UK losses to shrink 'closer and closer to zero' across Q1-Q2 FY27, with +£70-80/ton realisation guidance for Q2.
